Self expression has become everyone's favorite past timethese days.
Like an uncalled for press-release, some have required it onthemselves that they need to say or do something "big andextravagant" in their life - on a day to day basis.
Well! It isn’t the Olympics but there is this brewingcompetition going' on inside every person's conscious mind, talk about being “morecool” than their “friends” and acquaintances.
For everyone’s convenience, I have categorized the “threemost popular antics” that some people resort to when they want the world toknow that they have what “it” takes.
YOU GOT IT? FLAUNT IT?
Gadgets and expensive items do not end their “display” lifein the shelves of a specialty store.
I have been inside a coffee shop at the mall when I saw thisgirl whom I first thought was a sales agent - I was wrong.
Her silver sleek laptop, herI-Pad, her I-Phone, her I Pod, she even has those Dr. Dre’ headphones and a PSPstrapped around her neck while sipping coffee. She’s it! Maybe i'm just being envious
There’s more. If you’ll notice, some people have beensmiling extra-wide nowadays? It’s because they’re showing their newly acquired expensivebraces. More than the oral benefit that it would bring to them teeth – it’s the“display factor” that some people are after. (well, not all)
Did you notice? Everyone has become a photographer (and a model). I and mygirls have seen this guy walking in the mall with his DSLR camera hanging inhis neck like it’s his new accessory. Heck, he could have hid it inside his bigbag right? Are we just being judgmental? Probably not.
GET PHOTOGRAPHED WITH IT.
As much as possible, you’d want to make it appear “stolen”or just the normal thing but it sill screams a little “staged,” like somethingis not right. I am talking about the photos that we want taken and seen by our “friends”
So how would you let them know that you have a new phone anda new DSLR camera but you don’t want to play the obvious? Hmm, the more subtleway is to photograph yourself in front of the mirror – using your precious newcamera phones and DIGIcams…clever, right?
Now take a picture of your self doing the “cool stuff” – atleast once in your life – you have experienced it.
Cool, like get photographed near or beside the establishmentlogo while you visit a high end club, take a photo of the food being servedinside the high-end restaurant or fast-food chain that you have dined in, ortake a snap-shot of yourself chillin’ in the newest bar in town – if it’s yourfirst time there at least you have a “souvenir”
And don’t forget, your expensive bags, gadgets should be inthe frame or else it’s useless.
Again, all of your efforts will be put to nouse if you’d not upload the photos in your social networking accounts and makeyour “friends” see it.
TWEET IT, STATUS MSG IT.
This one has been the most popular and easiest way of makingother people know that you’re “it.”
Unlike in photos and personal flaunting,this one has no proof but just your personal accounts and 160-character shortstories to publish. There’s a lot of exaggeration (and a little bit of lie) going on here, well for some –they want supporting documents so they’ll attached a tweetpic – which again, isa little "conceited"
Do you honestly think that we would even care to update ourstatus messages with “hearty” servings of unlimited “extravagance” if no one will be able to see it?
Of course not, we’re addicted to it becausewe know – our “friends”/followers know how to read.
Where you at, what you are doing, what did you eat, whereare you going? – They all have to be “status” worthy, had if not we won’t mindsharing it with our friends in the first place. At least, you have played it “cool”and “socialite-like” in your own kind of way.
How do we prove that we exist? Where do we base our self worth?
When you know the real you, you’re secured enough and wouldn't care prove yourself to anyone.
There’s this thin line between ‘bragging” and making those around you “informed” about your whereabouts. What's boastful to you maybe just a “normal thing to do” for some people. Your motive and intention onwhy you do those things are all that matters. Just remember that those around you are not dumb, they know how todifferentiate the real ones from fakes.
