Shakira Leads Cheers for Soccer Champions Barcelona

Pop superstar Shakira was leading the cheers as her soccer star boyfriendGerard Pique helped Spain's FC Barcelona to victory in the Champions League final in London on Saturday (28May11).

The Hips Don't Lie hitmaker began dating the sports star shortly after announcing her split from longtime partner, Antonio de la Rua, in January(11) and she is often spotted supporting him at games.

Pique took to the pitch at London's Wembley Stadium on Saturday as his team took on Britain's Manchester United in the final of Europe's Champions League - and Shakira shared her excitement with fans as Barcelona thrashed their opponents 3-1.

In a post on Twitter.com, she writes, "Champions! Long live Barca! And now get ready, the big celebration is coming!" Pique later revealed the team will celebrate the victory by attending Shakira's concert in Barcelona on Sunday (29May11).

Other stars who attended the game included veteran crooner Neil Diamond, who posted a picture on Twitter which showed him at Wembley wearing a Manchester United hat and scarf.

But Diamond wasn't too disappointed when his team lost, writing, "What a match! Champions League Final at Wembley... Congratulations Barcelona. Great try Manchester!" Dedicated sports fan Russell Crowe was also following the game and 'Tweeting' throughout the action.

He concluded his Twitter coverage by writing, "Barcelona! Never in doubt. Bad luck Man U, did great to get to the final".

Shakira is set to receive the Harvard Foundation's "most prestigious medal” this year, in recognition of her music and charity work. The award will be presented at the annual Cultural Rhythms festival, which is held at Sanders Theatre on the grounds of Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on February 26.

Acknowledging the world's most celebrated artists, scientists and leaders for their humanitarian efforts, the initiative is the college’s center for intercultural arts and sciences.

The foundation's director S. Allen Counter said Shakira had been chosen to receive the accolade this year because of her musical contributions to culture and her work helping children in impoverished areas such as Haiti.

He said: “The students and faculty of the Harvard Foundation are honored to present multi-platinum artist Shakira with the 2011 Artist of the Year award. Her contributions to music and distinguished history of creativity have been applauded by people throughout the world, and she is greatly admired worldwide for her humanitarian efforts through her Barefoot Foundation.”

The singer -- who has sold 50 million albums worldwide -- started the Barefoot Foundation when she was just 18 and has opened six schools through it.

The charity’s goal is to ensure that every child has the basic right to a quality education.
Shakira has also been a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador since 2003.

Shakira Named Harvard Foundation's Artist of the Year

She’s one of the hardest working musicians out there, and the Harvard Foundation is planning on recognizing Shakira for her efforts.

According to reports, the Harvard Foundation has named the “She Wolf” singer as the 2011 Artist of the Year.

Shakira will receive “the Foundation’s most prestigious medal” in recognition of her music and charity work at the annual Cultural Rhythms festival - which is held at Sander Theater at Harvard in Cambridge, Massachusetts.


The foundation’s director S. Allen Counter said that the Colombian beauty was chosen to receive the accolade this year because of her musical contributions to culture and her work helping children in impoverished areas such as Haiti.

Shakira Stuns Family With Sexy Shoot

Pop star Shakira is terrified the video for her new single is too sexy, fearing the raunchy promo will shock her parents and neighbors.

The stunning Colombian singer dons a flesh-colored leotard to writhe around in a cage in the video for She Wolf. But Shakira was worried about how the footage would be received by her loved ones.

She tells Britain's The Sun newspaper, "My parents texted me to say they had watched it and really loved it. A bit provocative, but they loved it. But my mother was just a little bit concerned what the neighbors were going to say.

"No matter how famous you are, you always wonder what your parents and neighbors will say. Parents are like your conscience. My mom saw some of the images before the edit and said, 'Oh my God, is that really you?' My dad said it was very artistic. I have their blessing".

And Shakira's fiance Antonio De La Rua, the son of former Argentine president Fernando de la Rua, was also wary of her appearing to bare all in the video.

She adds, "He was at the shoot and he watched me walk out in the leotard and said, 'Hey, why don't you wear a scarf? Put a scarf on!' Then he closed his eyes and just let it happen.

Shakira: ‘I’m a Terrible Actress’

Shakira will never return to her acting roots — because she was a “terrible” actress.

The Hips Don’t Lie singer, 32, started out as an actress in a bid to get famous –but she was so bad, she never wants to appear on screen again.

“I acted once — years ago,” she says. “I was such a terrible actress, so I stopped. I’m always making up excuses not to take up any roles that I’m being offered.

“I don’t know. I am very unsure about my skills as an actress so I don’t know.”

The Colombian star recently revealed that she used to find it really “difficult” when it came to writing songs — because she had to look up every word in an English-Spanish dictionary.

“Writing songs used to be so difficult for me,” said Shakira, whose latest album is mostly in English. “A few years ago I could barely speak English and I used to write my songs with a dictionary.

“It was a real labor of love and I would sit there for hours just looking up words. But now thankfully it comes to me more naturally and spontaneously.”
